Daft Punk – ‘Harder Better Faster Stronger (Alive 2007)’

Daft Punk – ‘Harder Better Faster Stronger (Alive 2007)’

Little more than an excerpt sliced from Alive 2007, the live recording of Daft Punk’s Paris gig from last June, this is a thrilling taster – even if you get the feeling you really had to be there. Snippets of ‘Television Rules The Nation’ (from third studio album Human After All) and ‘Around The World’ (from debut Homework) give way to the main event which jettisons the cut-up beats from the Discovery original and pounds along on a techno thump. Squiggly noises and synth guitars keep the party rocking, but it seems a bit out of place by itself. That’s probably the idea.

Young Knives – ‘Up All Night’

Young Knives – ‘Up All Night’

Though this is not a Razorlight cover, it’d be interesting to see what Young Knives would do if they were forced into one. No doubt they’d give it angular guitars and make the lyrics sound sarcastic, because that’s what they do best. But they may need to find a new trick because ‘Up All Night’ is plain boring. Henry Dartnall sounds tired, the guitars don’t rock enough and the chorus has all the subtlety of a Kaiser Chief. They’ll do better.
